“Last December, Christmas was almost cancelled. Britian was poised on the edge of bankrupcy, banks and bankers were going or being thrown to the dogs. In that environment, no one was commissioing any creative work from any type of creative company. It was truly a bleak midwinter. This company had been working on a promotional campaign for a major retailer. When the budget was slashed because of the credit crunch, they lost out. But instead of just giving in, the took the commission and turned it into a You Tube must see. They didnt give in, they weren’t defeated. In the face of adversity they turned a loss into a winner. With humour, and talent. And that’s why I chose them as this years winner of this special award. I think Tony would have approved.

In the Get Set Go clip, which is being show at 7am every weekday, live action from presenters Sid Sloane and Andy Day shows them “Getting Set” for the day in a 3D animated world.

Tony, Our MD, says: “This latest brief was particularly enjoyable to work on, allowing us to use advanced technology coupled with imaginative styling.”

Gareth adds: “During our past projects we have been developing a number of tools that provide us with the capability to run multiple 3D packages on the same shots simultaneously – bridging the gap between the modelling, animation and rendering packages. These custom built tools again proved invaluable for the CBBC ident which involved multiple artists and a short turn around.”

The shoot took place in London’s Black Island Studios and used the latest in motion control technology. The sofas and actors were placed on a 6m2 rotating platform to increase the rotational axis of the camera as it moved past on the Cyclops motion control rig.

Projects don’t come much bigger than this, and we’re quite proud of the challenges we overcame within the tight deadlines.
